September 3 is International Bacon day – And December 30 is, well, just BACON DAY!!
Bacon has been around for awhile – like way back to the Middle Ages! The name, Bacon, has origins in the old French word, bacun, meaning “back meat”. The meat of the pig’s back was cured to preserve it and over the years it has evolved to bacon as we know it. The salty, smoky goodness. So lets celebrate the day with some Bacon!!
Here are some recipes from this blog- The Lazy Gastronome – and some great ones that have been shared on the What’s for Dinner link up – all highlighting,
BACON

Here’s a new spin on the classic grilled cheese sandwich – add apples and bacon!
A great lunch or even a breakfast on the run….
What you need:
- 8 slices of bread
- 1 large apple – cut into very thin slices
- 8 1-oz. slices of cheddar cheese
- 12 slices of crisp cooked bacon
How to Do it:
Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side, lay the cheese. On top of the cheese lay 3 slices of bacon (cut to fit the bread) and several slices of apple. Top with a second piece of bread.
In a hot skillet, lay the sandwiches (butter on the outer sides of the bread) and cook on medium heat until golden brown.
Flip and brown the other side.
Make sure the heat is not too high or the cheese won’t melt and the bread will burn. It’s ready to serve when the cheese is oozing out of the sandwich.
Serves 4

Looking for something delicious and transportable for breakfast? Try these bacon, egg and cheese pinwheels. Have some now and reheat some later!
And here is the quick and easy recipe…
What you need:
- 1 package of crescent rolls
- 10 slices of bacon
- 1 cup grated cheddar
- 5 eggs
- 2 Tablespoons milk or cream
How to Do it:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Cook the bacon until it is crisp but still soft. Remove from heat and drain on paper towels
Beat the eggs with the milk. Pour into a hot skillet and cook, stirring occasionally.
Open the crescent rolls and separate out to two sheets. Push the edges together to seal the perforations that make them crescents.
Lay the bacon evenly across the dough.
Top with the cheese
and the eggs.
Gently roll each of the dough sheets, making sure all the holes are sealed. Pinch the ends so that the cheese stays in.
Lay on baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the rolls are a golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a couple of minutes. Cut each roll into four slices and serve – some fresh fruit makes a perfect meal!
Serves 4 – 2 slices each
