The Deliciously Basic Turkey Burger

Posted By HelenFern On In Main dish,Sandwich,Turkey | 4 Comments

I love a basic burger – no fancy dressings. But -I have been told by the cardiologist I need to loose weight, and so in response, I have joined weight watchers.  As those of you who follow this blog know, I also love to eat.  Now that is the dilemma!  I’m in the mood for a big juicy, just your basic burger.  But then I calculated what it would cost me.  Hmmmm – What to do….

Want to know more?

Here’s How to Do it:

Heat the olive oil in a grill pan or cast iron skillet.  Reduce heat to medium.

Mix the garlic, salt and pepper well into the ground turkey and split into four patties.

Cook in the hot oil until cooked completely through (don’t eat rare poultry please!) and it is lightly browned.  Just before they are done, top each turkey patty with ¾ oz. of sliced cheddar.

Toast the muffins.

Lay the cooked turkey burger on top of one half of a muffin – repeat with the other three.  Add the tomato, onion and leafy greens.  Spread ½ Tablespoon of mayonnaise on the top piece of muffin and close the burger.

Voila!

And its only about 300 calories, 7 grams of fat, 35 grams of carbs (10 fiber and 3 ½ sugar) and 32 grams of protein.

In Weight Watchers talk, that’s 7 points!

Makes 4 servings of one burger each!

Slow Cooked BBQ Beef Sandwiches

Posted By HelenFern On In Beef,Main dish | 2 Comments

I’ve been so busy lately!!  Trying to work my job at a child care center, writing blog posts for my too many blogs, and prepare for a show where I sell my photos!  So when is there time to cook?

Well that’s what a slow cooker is for!  Put your meal into it in the morning and it’s dinner when you get home!  Here is an easy and delicious recipe for BBQ beef that you’ll make again and again!

What you need:

How to Do it:

Add all the ingredients to a crock pot and stir to mix.

Lay the beef on top, cover and cook on high for 1 hour.

Turn the heat to low and cook for 8-10 hours longer.

Remove the beef to a bowl and shred with a fork.

Serve the shredded beef on buns or rolls and top with some of the sauce.

Goes great with onion rings! [29]
