Easy and delicious – full of whole fruit goodness…
What you need:
- 3 large apples (I used Honey Crisp)
- 2 cups of water
- ¼ cup sugar – (more if you like very sweet applesauce) – sugar is optional!
How to Do it:
Peel, core and chop the apples. I don’t worry about the piece being uniform because I like applesauce with cream and chunky texture together. Place the apples and the water in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil then turn to low and simmer until the apple are very soft and starting to fall apart. Most of the water should be evaporated at this point.
Add the sugar (we like it tart) and simmer until the sugar is melted and slightly caramelized.
Serve warm or cover and refrigerate. It will last about a week in the refrigerator. I sprinkled the top with a little cinnamon –
Makes about 1 ½ cups
